Stretching Rules:

  • Always warm up your body before stretching.
  • Always stretch slowly. Do not bounce or jerk.
  • Always stretch the body parts you will be using in your physical activities.
  • Stop stretching if it hurts.

Giraffe Stretch

Equipment: none

Type of Exercise: non-locomotor


Action: Try to be as tall as a giraffe by extending the body and muscles as high as they can reach.

Technique:

  • Stand on your tiptoes.
  • Reach your arms above your head as high as you can stretch.
  • Lengthen your neck as far as it will go.

Elephant Stretch

Equipment: none

Type of Exercise: non-locomotor


Action: Try to be as wide as an elephant by extending the body and muscles as wide as they can reach.

Technique:

  • Move your feet as far apart as you can while still staying balanced.
  • If you start to fall over, move your feet closer together.
  • Reach your arms out to the side as far as you can.

Snake Stretch

Equipment: none

Type of Exercise: non-locomotor


Action: Try to be as long as a snake by extending the body and muscles as long as you can.

Technique:

  • Lie down on the floor on your stomach.
  • Reach your arms above your head as high as you can stretch.
  • Lengthen your body as long as it will go.
