Goal:

United States CapitolLet's begin with our nation's capital, Washington, D.C. This is where the president, members of Congress, Supreme Court justices, and many other government officials live and work. There is much to see in Washington, D.C., including the Capitol, Supreme Court, White House, and Washington Monument, which are all very impressive buildings. You can also see historical structures such as the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and the Vietnam Wall, which is a memorial to all the American soldiers who died in the Vietnam War.

Washington is also home to the massive Smithsonian Museum. The museum consists of several very large buildings, each dedicated to a different topic, such as African American history and culture, air and space, Asian art, American history, and the National Zoo. You could spend a week there and still not come close to seeing everything!

A short drive away from the city are George Washington’s manor, Mount Vernon, and Thomas Jefferson’s home, Monticello. Numerous Civil War sites and colonial towns, such as Williamsburg and Jamestown, are also close enough for day trips.
