Appalachian Life

The Appalachian Mountains are also home to a rich cultural heritage. Bluegrass music has its roots in this region. Many fiddle tunes (which, by the way, can be played by many other instruments besides the fiddle) have been preserved; some can be heard at a website called Fiddle Tunes of the Old Frontier: The Henry Reed Collection.

The craft of hand weaving also comes from the Appalachians. Women create beautiful coverlets, or bed covers, many of which can be seen at Knoxville, Tennessee's McClung Museum.
