Basketball Dribble Skills

Equipment: basketball
Type of Exercise: manipulative
Action: Hold the ball at waist level. Drop the ball on the floor. Keep the ball bouncing without stopping or catching it.

Technique:

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart.
  • Hold the ball at your waist.
  • Drop the ball to the floor.
  • Use your fingertips to push the ball.
  • Do not use the palm of your hands to slap the ball.
  • The ball should not bounce higher than your waist.
  • Practice with your right hand and then your left hand.

Skill Activities:

  • Dribble the ball back and forth between your right and left hands.
  • Count how many times you can dribble the ball.
  • Start by walking while dribbling. Move to a jog and then to a run.
  • Race a friend while dribbling.
  • Dribble with a defender trying to take it from you.
  • Dribble in a zigzag pattern.
