A country is usually broken down into states or provinces. A state is a smaller territory of a country that, when added to other states, makes a federation, or a united group. A province is a specific area or location within a country that is a subset of a larger union.
Although states and provinces obey the rules of the central government of their country, states also have their own separate laws.
