Pennsylvania's Economy

Pennsylvania is known for its manufacturing industry, specifically for the large amounts of steel produced there.

Pennsylvania is also home to a company that produces equipment for the railroad, mining, drilling, and energy generation industries.

Pennsylvania has the most short-line freight railroads operating in the U.S. This enables goods produced in Pennsylvania to be shipped by railroad throughout the country. In addition, large amounts of corn, hay, and soybean are grown there, and these products are frequently shipped to many other places around the state and the country.

To ship both industrial and agricultural goods, Pennsylvania must have strong communication and transportation systems. This state shows that the use of the railroad is still an effective means of transportation for shipping products throughout the U.S.
