Freeda Fossil was in a great mood, even though it was a Monday, she didn't have to go to school, and her mom didn't have to go to work.

She decided to celebrate, by buying her mom some flowers, getting Rex a treat, and maybe a chocoloate chip cookie for herself.

First she went to Mr. Megladons flower shop, but it was closed. "That's funny," Freeda thought. "It's always open on Monday mornings."

Next, she went to the pet store, to buy Rex one of his favorite bones. It was closed too.

And, Mrs. Sabertooth was no where in sight.

When she got to the coffee shop, Mr. Tricerotops was closing up. "Happy Labor Day, Freeda," he said.

Freeda asked why all the stores were closed.

Mr. Tricerotop said that today was the first Monday of September, a special holiday in the United States called Labor Day.

For over 100 years, Labor Day has been a chance to recognize and honor the millions of people who work hard, everyday in the classrooms, factories, shops, and farms across the country.

Without them, we wouldn't even have pet stores, flower shops, fruit stands, or schools.

Every Labor Day, we say thank you to the American worker, by giving them the day off.

Mr. Tricerotop said he was heading to the harbor, to spend labor day with his family.

Freeda decided to go with him, and saw Mr. Megaladon, Ms. Sabertooth, Ms. Aminite, and even her mom, relaxing and having fun at the beach.

And, her mom had made chocolate chip cookies for everyone.
