Nosebleeds can happen when the nose is struck. While it would be best to avoid such an injury while playing a sport, the next best thing is to treat it properly. If you or another athlete get a nosebleed, do the following:
- Keep the injured person quiet.
- Place the person in a sitting position and have him or her lean forward.
- Apply direct pressure by pressing on the bleeding nostril.
- Apply a cold towel to the person’s nose and face.
- Place a piece of cotton or gauze between the upper lip and teeth to stop the bleeding.
If the bleeding continues, seek medical help.
