Next you will complete your 3.9 Applying Note Taking Strategies activity. To complete this form:
1. Read the description of each note taking strategy in Column One of your form. Next, think of different situations when taking note improves or could improve your learning.
2. For each note taking strategy, answer the questions in the next two columns:
- Where could I use this strategy now? After thinking about the unique benefits of each strategy, take time to identify a course or topic (e.g., science, math) or a learning situation (e.g., a group project or small group discussion), a list of terms or events (e.g., major battles of a war), or other area in which each strategy might improve your learning.
- Why is this strategy a good match with this course, topic, or kind of information? Next you will describe how the features or purpose of the strategy will assist you in learning the material or learn better in the situation you described in column two.
3. Decide if each strategy could be used in combination with the Cornell Note Taking system. You may find that certain strategies are best suited to lectures, some to group discussions, some to memorizing lists of terms. Write Yes or No in the final column to indicate your opinion.
After reviewing the example below, go to your form to complete this activity. When you have finished, please keep an electronic and print copy of your form.
