There are several properties of color you should be familiar with during this course. Knowing and understanding the properties below will help you to understand and express ideas about color and design.
Hue
The name of a color (ex: red, green, blue) Tint
A color with white added to it Shade
A color with black added to it Tone
A color with gray or its complement (opposite color on the color wheel) added to it Value
The darkness or lightness of a color Intensity
The relative purity or saturation of a color on a scale of bright to dark AchromaticA color with no hue, such as neutral grays, white, or black Temperature
This is the warmth or coolness of a color. Generally, warm colors have a red base, and cool colors have a blue base, but this formula is not always reliable. For example, one color, red-violet, has both red and blue in it. This is true for other color combinations as well |
