PDF Download- Meet the Johnson family. They are taking a road trip around the United States to lots of famous places. Let's join the fun!
The first stop is the Golden Gate Bridge. This famous bridge opened in 1937. The bridge spans the one-mile strait between San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
Their next stop is the Las Vegas Strip. Travelers come from around the world to see all of the amazing sights on this one street in the middle of the Nevada desert.
The Johnsons are on their way to the third stop on their road trip, the Grand Canyon.
What a beauty! This is a natural feature in Arizona. The Colorado River carved out the canyon long before the Native Americans lived there. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles long and the widest part is 18 miles wide.
The Johnsons are now off to New Mexico to the Chaco Culture National Historical Park. This national park has the most Native American pueblos in the American Southwest.
The next stop is the Alamo Mission in San Antonio, Texas. This historical landmark is known as "the Alamo." Just like you, the Johnson children learned about the Battle of the Alamo in school. They want to visit this famous chapel known as the "Shrine of Texas Liberty."
The Johnsons are about halfway across their United States road trip!
Do you know what river is the longest in America?
The Mississippi River! Here is a view from New Orleans, Louisiana.
Can you find it on this map?
The Mississippi River is 2,320 miles long. It starts in the north in Minnesota and flows south, emptying into the Gulf of Mexico.
Continuing with water, the Johnsons drive to Florida to see the Everglades National Park.
The Everglades is a vast wetlands area with grasses, reeds, and marshlands in southern Florida.
Be careful!
Heading north, the Johnsons are traveling to our nation's capital, Washington, D.C.
There are so many landmarks to see, such as the Washington Monument and the Jefferson Monument.
The Johnsons go to the White House and then visit the U.S. Capitol building. Continuing with national pride, the Johnsons continue north to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to see the famous Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. There are a lot photos to take here.

The Johnson family wants to make one more stop on their U.S. road trip. The Statue of Liberty, a gift from France, represents American freedom.

The Johnsons plan to take a different route home to see even more U.S. landmarks along the way.
Their road trip continues…
