Next up is the Lone Star State of Texas. It's a big state, and there are many interesting places to visit there. Let's start in the capital city of Austin.

You can see the Texas Capitol building in Austin where all of the state government offices are. Then you can go swimming in Barton Springs Pool, which is three acres of the water that comes from a natural spring.

In San Antonio, Texas, you can visit the Alamo. This is the Spanish mission where the famous Battle of the Alamo took place. Next, you can go a story below the San Antonio streets to the Riverwalk where you will find shops and restaurants all along the river.

Do you like the ocean? You should visit Padre Island, which is a barrier island along the southern coast of Texas. It is a vast protected area with beaches that shelter rare sea turtles. You can also fish off the Bob Hall Pier.

Fond of animals? There are many big zoos in Texas. The Fort Worth Zoo is the only zoo in our country to have all four species of the great ape: gorillas, orangutans, bonobos, and chimpanzees. Sea World is another famous place to visit to see ocean life, and there are many other aquariums around Texas as well.

Houston, Texas, has an "out of this world" Space Center to visit. You can see flown spacecraft, moon rocks, and a collection of space suits.

Texas has lots of famous beaches. The Gulf of Mexico borders Texas on its southern border. Island East Beach is large and pretty. Most Texas beaches have firm, white sand where you can swim, kayak, fish, and more.

You can boat, fish, and camp at Lake Travis, too. It is a reservoir on the Colorado River. You can also scuba dive and zip line.
