How does weather impact you?

Weather is the condition in the atmosphere, or in the air above. Changes in temperature (how hot or cold it is), rain, snow, wind, sun, fog, and clouds are common weather conditions.
People watch the news, read the paper, or look online to find out what the weather will be like for the day. Weather can change every day, depending on the atmosphere, sun, and season.
Some types of weather can impact people and the places they live. Severe weather, like thunderstorms, lightning, tornadoes, and hurricanes, can damage homes and businesses, cause floods and fires, and even destroy entire neighborhoods.
How has the weather affected places in the United States like Florida and Texas? Study the slides below to find out.
When the warm ocean water from the Atlantic Ocean mixes with high winds, hurricanes form and come across the Caribbean and hit Florida, or they cross into the Gulf of Mexico and make landfall in Texas. As weather patterns change, the possible threat this weather has on an area also changes. Weather that is very dangerous, like hurricanes, often has a significant impact on areas near the ocean. These huge storms can change course, strengthen, or weaken, and they often cause catastrophic damage to everything in their path. No matter how prepared an area is, sometimes the strength and destruction of weather cannot be avoided. |
