Do you know what it’s like to move to a very unfamiliar place? The two videos below were created to welcome people who have immigrated to the United States from other countries and to encourage them to become American citizens. As you watch each video, think about why its message might be helpful to new immigrants.
This video was created by former president Barack Obama’s citizenship awareness campaign.
The true strength of a nation lies not in its might, but in the courage and conviction of its people. Our hopes, our dreams. Our boundless determination to set down roots and build a better life, not just for ourselves, but for our families, for our communities, for our children, for all of us. And by becoming an American citizen, you'll take an important step toward securing those dreams for all of us.
With the promise of better job opportunities, the rights and freedoms enjoyed by every American, and with the chance to give back to the country you now call home. It's not about changing who you are, it's about adding a new chapter to your journey as an American citizen and to our journey as a nation of immigrants.
So help us spread the word. Share this message with friends, family, neighbors and co-workers. If you're eligible, commit to becoming a citizen today. Help others who are ready to take this step as well. It's an important step for you and an important step for our nation. Join us. Together we can make America stand even stronger. This video features José Andrés, a famous chef and restaurant owner who immigrated to the United States from Spain.
[MUSIC PLAYING] So my name is José Andrés. And it happens, I'm a chef. I am from a beautiful region in northern Spain called Asturias. I arrived United States in 1991.

I got the opportunity to come to New York with an E-2 visa. I came just to bring the culture, the cooking, of the part of the world I am from. I was supposed to get my citizenship much earlier. I just got it two years ago.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
The reason I waited was I was waiting for my wife. I wanted to do it together. I am the type of guy that believes that the American dream still exists today. And if anything, new citizens are going to be only helping to make the dream even better to keep moving this amazing country forward, but also to be this kind of light of hope.
We need to remember that millions and millions left everything they had behind to be part of the new American dream. They put their lives at risk. If you have the opportunity to become a citizen, don't wait. Do it.[MUSIC PLAYING]
Why? You are already part of what America is all about. You are helping move America forward. You are part of the DNA of what America is all about.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
You need to become a citizen because we need you to keep being part of everything you've been fighting for. Just do it.
