In this journal assignment, you will write a short paragraph describing classes you have or activities you do during the week. Remember, to say I have, you need to use the verb avoir conjugated with je: j’ai.
Read the example paragraph below. It includes both short, simple sentences and some longer sentences using et, the French word for and.
For example:
Lundi, j’ai l’entraînement de foot. Mardi, j’ai le cours de maths et d’anglais. Mercredi, j’ai l’entraînement de foot et le cours de français. J’ai l’entraînement de foot jeudi et vendredi. Samedi, j’ai un match de foot. Dimanche, j’ai une leçon de guitare.
Locate your file containing this module’s journal assignment and paste the prompt below at the end of the document. Label the entry with this lesson’s title. Then, type a response to the prompt.
Write a paragraph in French describing what you do during the week. Your paragraph must:
- Include at least 5 sentences.
- Mention all seven days of the week in French.
- Use at least three vocabulary terms you learned, such as un match, une eçon, l’entraînement, or le cours de.
If you want to write about activities, you have not yet learned the words for, you may search for them one word at a time using an online French-to-English dictionary. Do NOT use a translator. Wordreference.com has a good English to French online dictionary.
Learning to use an online English to French dictionary is a valuable skill. It will allow you to build your French vocabulary on your own. Many words have multiple meanings. For example, you can drive a golf ball, drive a car, and drive a person crazy. In these instances, the word you need for drive in French may be different. It works the same way in French. For example, the verb faire means to make or to do. But faites attention is translated into English as pay attention. You will learn this by using an online French-English dictionary. But NOT by using an online translator!
When you have written a complete and detailed answer to the journal prompt, save the file so that you can open it again for the next lesson with a journal assignment. (You will submit your journal to your teacher for grading later in the module.)
