You’ve decided to start your own business.

After careful consideration of many business opportunities, you chose lawn and garden care.

You have access to a lawn mower and gardening tools, and you know that your neighbors always need help keeping their yards beautiful. Therefore, you’ll cut lawns and maintain gardens.

After looking around your neighborhood, you notice that many of the lawns and gardens are shaped like squares and triangles.

You can use these shapes to determine how much money you should charge for your services. Specifically, you’ll charge clients based on the perimeter and area of their lawns and gardens. The perimeter is the distance around a figure.

The area is the amount of space inside a figure.

In this lesson, you’ll learn how to calculate the perimeter and area of squares and triangles. Using that information, you can calculate how much to charge.

Question

In order to decide the prices for your lawn and gardening service, you’ll need to consider two characteristics of the lawn or garden – the perimeter and the area. What is the difference between the perimeter of a figure and its area?
