Our first few words follow the CVVC pattern. CVVC stands for consonant, vowel, vowel, consonant. Can you think of any words that have the CVVC pattern?
Meet has the CVVC pattern.
Do you see the pattern?

When you see a word with this pattern, you will hear the first vowel. In “meet” we hear the long e.

Now let’s take a look at the rest of our spelling words with the CVVC pattern.
Deal. She got a good deal on her new bike at the yard sale. Deal
Do you hear the long e? We don’t hear a long a because that comes after the e.
Beach. He couldn’t wait to fly his kite on the beach. Beach
The e comes first, so we hear the long e sound.
Sweet. He couldn’t eat too much chocolate because it was so sweet. Sweet
There’s that long e again! This time it’s from the ee.
Seen. She hasn’t seen the new movie yet. Seen
Do you hear the long e again?
Mean. The mean dog always barked at them. Mean
We hear the long e sound from the ea again here.
Queen. The queen wore a large crown. Queen.
We hear the long e sound from the ee.
Green. The trees and grass are so green in spring. Green
We hear the same long e sound from the ee again.
Street. They crossed the busy street. Street
We hear that long e from the ee again here.

The rest of our spelling words are sight words. They don’t follow the CVVC pattern.
