What does it mean to write a retelling of a story?
Goal:
Goal:
We will be writing a retelling of our story, "The Country Mouse and the City Mouse," this week.
What is a retelling? A retelling includes all the important details of a story. The characters, setting, and plot are all included.
Let's take a look at an example below. Since we already talked about how "The Tortoise and the Hare" is an example of a fable, let's look at a retelling of that fable.
The Tortoise and the Hare
"The Tortoise and the Hare" is a fable about taking your time and trying your best. The two main characters are the tortoise and the hare. The hare is sure he is faster than all the animals in the forest. Tortoise grows tired of his bragging and accepts his challenge of a race. The hare is so confident he will beat the tortoise that he takes many breaks and naps during the race. Tortoise never stops. He slowly makes his way to the finish line before the hare realizes that he has wasted too much time. The tortoise beats the hare because slow and steady wins the race.
Tomorrow, we'll start planning our own retelling for "The Country Mouse and The City Mouse."
