Grouping to Multiply
You can place items in groups to multiply just like you can place them in rows to make arrays.

How many animals in all?
You can write the sentence 4 + 4 + 4 = 12 or 4 x 3 = 12.
You can write the turn around multiplication fact 3 x 4 = 12.
