Because prayer was and still is so important to Muslims, rugs have also become important.

Prayer rug Every devout Muslim has his own prayer rug, big enough for one person. This rug is considered to make a sacred place for prayer wherever the person might be. Prayer rugs have specific kinds of patterns on them. In the middle is a panel with at least one pointed niche which resembles a prayer niche inside a mosque. Above that is a rectangle which the worshipper touches with his forehead during his prayers. Other decorations on the rug include inscriptions from the Koran, hanging lamps, elaborate archways, and other common designs seen in mosques.
Persian Carpet There are many other kinds of Persian carpets as well, which are used as saddle bags, covers, cushions, blankets, wall coverings, and of course, rugs for the floor. Some show the Muslim vision of Paradise, while others have complex “medallion” designs around a central geometric pattern.
