In Islam there are no priests, and all believers are considered equal. There is a very strong sense of community, and devout Muslims delight in getting together to pray and read their holy scriptures.
There are six articles of faith in Islam. These are things that every Muslim believes in as an act of faith. They are as follows:
- Belief in one God who is the creator of all. This God is almighty, merciful, eternal, and invisible, and has absolute control over the universe.
- Belief in angels, which are considered to be made of light. Islam teaches that every person has two recording angels: one who records good deeds, and one who records bad deeds. At Judgment Day, if the good deeds outweigh the bad, the person can go to a wonderful place called Paradise. There are also other angels with other duties.
- Belief in the scriptures of Islam; the Koran. Islam teaches that the Koran, as given to Muhammad, corrects the errors that have occurred over time in the earlier scriptures that were given to Moses, David, and Jesus.
- Belief in prophets. The prophets of Judaism and Christianity are part of the Islamic tradition, but Muhammad is hailed as the last and greatest of all.
- Belief in Judgment Day, when, on the last day of the world, all the dead will rise and be judged according to the balance sheets recorded by their two recording angels.
- Belief that human life is ordained by God, and that Allah has it all planned and under control. Muslims often say, “It is the will of Allah...”
