Islamic Religious Holidays

The holiest month of the year for Muslims is called Ramadan. It is a month for people to reflect, and focus on their devotion to Allah. During this month Muslims fast which means they have no food or drink from before sunrise to sunset. Ramadan is a time where Muslims are expected to spend extra time reading from the Qur’an and performing special prayers. Ramadan is also a time for being social. At the end of the fast each day Muslims will come together to feast and meet for prayer.

Another annual event in the Islam religion is Hajj. Once in their lifetime on the 12th month of the lunar calendar every Muslim who has the physical and financial means must make a pilgrimage to Mecca for the annual Hajj. This is a 3-5 day event that commemorates Abraham. The main reason for the pilgrimage to Hajj is to be forgiven of sin.
