The Great Plains lie in the middle of the United States. They are east of the Rocky Mountains and west of the Mississippi River. The Great Plains Region is a large area of mostly flat land with grasses; it is around 2,000 miles long and 500 miles wide. The entire states of Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota are in the Great Plains Region.
