The Texas State Seal was adopted in 1845 in the Texas Constitution. The Lone Star is the main symbol of Texas, which was used to represent the Republic of Texas. It is a single star with five points and is either gold or silver. When Texas joined the Union, the word "Republic" was changed to "State." The live oak branch and an olive branch were added to the seal at that time. This is the obverse of the Texas State Seal.

This is the reverse of the seal. It was created much later--in 1965 by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. The reverse includes a shield with the six national flags that have flown over Texas. This is only a decorative symbol, though. The obverse seal is the legal seal of Texas.
