A vote is a formal expression of an opinion or choice made by an individual. People vote in many situations.
You can vote for your favorite sport, favorite flavor of ice cream, what movie you want to watch, or what game you want to play. If more than one option is available and more than one person is voting, you can leave the outcome up to a vote. The sport, flavor, movie, or game with the most votes wins.
What's your favorite flavor?
Take a vote.
In the United States, citizens vote for people who will serve in government office and for or against proposed laws and policies. If you are a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years old, you have the right to vote.
Voting is both a right and a responsibility of U.S. citizens. Voters are responsible for learning about the people running in an election and the laws that are trying to be passed.
