How to Vote
What are the steps in the voting process?

Before someone can vote, he or she must first register to vote. To do this, a person must fill out a form with his or her name, address, and other important information.
On election day, people go to the polls in their neighborhood to vote. (A person's registration information determines where he or she will vote.)
Voting is private. Most times you vote using a machine in a private voting booth. Sometimes people vote on computers. People can also vote by mail if they can't make it to the polls on election day. This way their vote still counts.
A person votes for the people running for different offices, and he or she also chooses whether to be for or against any laws or policies on the ballot.
**It is important for voters to educate themselves about the candidates and issues so that they can make the best decisions when voting.**
When someone is finished choosing his or her preferences, the ballot is cast and the votes are officially recorded.
