How do American citizens work together to help the government solve state and community problems?

When a problem arises in your community, you can get involved to help find the solution. It's important for American citizens to get involved in their local community or government to help fix problems that directly affect them.
Read some examples of conflicts that can occur in local communities. As you read, think about how these problems might be resolved.
Think about your own community and what problems it has. Then get involved! Share your ideas about how to solve these problems and make your community a better place to live.
Conflicts in a Community:
- Maintaining city parks
- Noisy neighbors
- Speeding on local roads
- Older schools
- Businesses closing
- Theft of local businesses and homes
- Need for clean water
- No curfew for teenagers
- Need for a community garden
- Helping the sick and/or elderly
Can you think of some ways to fix these problems? Talk to an adult about how some of these conflicts might be resolved. Then think about ways you can help your local government and community thrive.
