An Ode to Friendship

The joy of a friend
to share is good times,
That offers support
when things aren't always fine.

A friend is a person
you can laugh with and play.
Those special moments you share
that can brighten your day.

Trust, loyal, caring are
traits of a good friend.
Who is by your side always
until the day ends.

So be thankful for friends
that are close to your heart.
Because those are the people
who will never part.

An ode is a type of poem that expresses the writer's feelings about a specific thing. The ode above is about friendship. Examples of friends, feelings toward friends, and traits of a good friend are all discussed in the ode.

Write an ode about conflict resolution. Think about why conflict resolution is important and how it is used to resolve conflicts. Use the tips below to help you write your ode.

Tip 1: Prewrite by listing all the things that you think are important about conflict resolution. This will help you organize your ideas before writing.
Tip 2: Decide whether or not you want your ode to rhyme. Most odes do, but yours doesn't have to.
Tip 3: The length of your ode may vary, but most odes are long. Think of subtopics related to conflict resolution. Each of these subtopics can be the subject of a stanza, or a group of related lines in the poem. For example, you might include types of conflict resolution as one subject of a stanza. Try to have at least three or four stanzas.
Tip 4: Remember that conflict resolution looks different at the government level, at the community level, and at the personal level. How do people solve conflicts at each level? Give some examples and explain them in your ode.
Tip 5: Reread your finished ode to add or remove details to help make your writing stronger. When someone else reads your poem, he or she should be able to identify why conflict resolution is important.
