What is a desert?

A desert is a place that does not get much rain. It is very dry and difficult for animals and plants to live here. Look at the pictures below. They are several types of deserts. Click on each picture to find out more.

Some deserts are mostly sand and are the hottest places on earth.

Are all deserts hot?

Most deserts are very hot, but some deserts are very cold. All deserts have one thing in common, They get very little rain. In this lesson, we will focus on the hot, sandy deserts.
