What is a map?

Take a look at each of the maps shown below. Let’s see if you can tell how each map is different from one another.

How are the maps different? Some maps are used when looking at different countries. Some are used when exploring a neighborhood. Some are even used to see how a home is laid out. A map is a drawing of all or part of Earth’s surface. It shows us where things are. We learned what the cardinal directions are and how they are useful on a map. In this lesson, you will learn about all the different types of maps and you will be able to draw your own map by the end of this lesson!
