Let's Reflect...

In the last lesson, you learned about the work of various portrait artists. In this lesson, you are going to begin working on creating your own portrait work. First, you need to work on the building blocks of portraiture. What struggles must artists overcome when creating portraits? Where do you think you will struggle?

Think about your own drawing ability, and write the following in order from the most difficult to the least difficult for you in your sketchbook.

  • Keeping features proportional to one another
  • Proper shading
  • Keeping the face symmetrical
  • Drawing specific features accurately
  • Drawing fine details

Is there anything else that you personally struggle within the mechanics of drawing? Write it down in your sketchbook and make a goal to work on it throughout the next few lessons.
