How does communication relate to relationships?

You have learned about the speaking and listening skills involved in effective communication. Healthy relationships depend upon these skills. Family members and friends need to be able to share their thoughts and feelings with one another and to know that they are being understood.

Communication and relationships are related, but it’s hard to know exactly how. For example, does good communication lead to a healthy relationship? Or does a healthy relationship lead to good communication? What about poor communication and unhealthy relationships?

For this week’s activity, you will write a dramatic dialogue with stage directions. Dramatic here just means “to be acted out,” not “overly emotional” unless you want it to be. Your characters’ communication—their words and actions—will show they have either a healthy or an unhealthy relationship.
