Those five chapters before Jonas received his Assignment helped you get to know Jonas as a character and showed you what his life was like before his departure from ordinary life. In the beginning, the only conflict in the story was Jonas’s struggle to wait until the Ceremony of Twelve finally arrived―and to manage his anxiety in the meantime.

The first episodes of the webcomic Pepper & Carrot show Pepper engaged in a conflict, but it is not the kind of conflict that leads to a hero’s journey. Its purpose is to help you learn more about Pepper―before she begins her journey. Read the rest of the episode below.
