How can you make your narrative clearer and more engaging?

Once you have a draft of your essay, you are ready to start revising. Revising is different and separate from editing. In the revision stage, you try to examine your draft from a reader’s point of view. Ask yourself: Are your ideas clear and easy to follow? Do the details help the reader hear, see, and feel the events?

As you revise, focus on the flow of your ideas and details. Don’t worry too much about spelling or grammar. Sure, fix any obvious errors, but remember that you’ll take a closer look during the editing stage.

Personal Narrative, Step 4

In your personal narrative file for this module, copy and paste another version of your essay’s first draft beneath the first version. Label the second version “Revised Draft.” Then, use the steps and suggestions on this page to revise your essay.

When you have made all of the needed revisions to your essay, save your work and go on to the next stage in the process.
