Most successful learners understand how they learn. Studies show that students who think about the way they learn new information and complex ideas actually remember more and earn higher grades.

Metacognition is the term used to describe thinking about how you think. It describes your awareness of your knowledge and your ability to understand and control your thinking process. When you begin to think about and understand how you learn, you develop new approaches—study strategies and skills—to your learning. In this course, you will be thinking about, considering, and possibly changing the way you listen, read, plan, problem solve, and more.

Therefore, learning in this course will be different than in your other courses.   How well you learn study strategies and skills will be important to your course grade, but will be most important to how well you learn in the rest of your classes.  To get the most from this course, you must immediately begin practicing your new knowledge, skills, and strategies in your other courses. Like adding new software to your computer, adding new learning skills to your studies improves how well you learn in all of your courses.
