Every state has a state tree. Do you know your state's tree? Let's look at some examples. The eastern hemlock is the state tree of Pennsylvania. Two states have two state trees. California's state trees are the coast redwood and the giant sequoia. Nevada also has two state trees--the single-leaf pinyon and the Great Basin bristlecone pine. Some states share the same state tree. For example, the tulip tree is the state tree of Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee. The sugar maple is the state tree of New York, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Nine states have a type of pine tree as their state tree. The eastern white pine is the state tree of Maine and Michigan. Do you like pecans? The pecan tree is the state tree of Texas. |
