First, what is a symbol? Let's look at some symbols and see if you know what they represent.
What does this symbol mean? Yes, a red circle with a line through it means "no" or "don't."
This sign tells us not to feed the birds.
What does this symbol mean? That is correct. This symbol stands for recycling.
The symbol tells us that this bin is for recycling.
Did you know that every state has symbols to represent the state and its history and values?
That's right! Let's go look at some state symbols.
You know that the bald eagle represents the United States of America, but did you know that each state has a state bird, too?
Here are some examples of some state birds.
States also have a state tree and a state flower that grow there. These trees and flowers are special to the state, too. Gemstones are another state symbol. States also have a state animal. Do you know which animal represents your state?
Some states have a state insect as a symbol.
