What in the world are text features? Text features are parts of books that help you find and learn information.

There are many different kinds of text features that help us find and learn about information in a book. One of those features is called a table of contents. A table of contents is a list at the beginning of a book, and it tells you the main things that will be in the book along with what page you can find them.

Headings are another text feature that help us find and learn about information in a book. Headings separate a book into parts. Headings are usually in bigger type and are at the top of a page. A heading tells you what’s to come in that part of the book.

Pictures and captions are both text features. They help us find information in a book as well. Captions below pictures tell us what is going on in the picture.

Another text feature that helps us find information in a book is a glossary. A glossary can be found at the end of a book. A glossary lists words from the book and tells you what those words mean. A glossary is like a little dictionary.

Today, you learned about tables of contents, headings, pictures, captions, and glossaries. Now, it is time to go on a hunt for all of those things!
You will be reading your weekly story, “Clocks,” again. But instead of searching for sight words and words with ck and k in them, this time you will be searching for text features. Watch for the table of contents, headings, pictures, captions, and a glossary.
