Georgia:
Georgia had been explored by Spanish and English settlers. Nothing was established until 1732, when King George II granted Georgia to James Edwards Oglethorpe, an English general. He set up Fort King George, which had high social and governmental goals. Even though Georgia started out as a proprietary colony, Oglethorpe caused the Spanish to flee into Florida for good, and the colony became a Crown colony.
South Carolina:
South Carolina was the site of the first European settlement of North America. In 1663, King Charles II created the colony of Carolina. It eventually became a Crown colony.
North Carolina:
North Carolina was officially recognized in 1691. It eventually became a Crown colony.
Rhode Island:
Rhode Island was founded by Roger Williams. The new colony became a place for people looking for religious freedom. Rhode Island was a corporate colony.
Maryland:
Charles I granted a Maryland Charter to Lord Baltimore in the year 1632. In 1633, the first settlers set sail for the new land. Maryland was a proprietary colony.
