Welcome to the mini-series A Trip Around the World.

Today we will take a mini-look at the history of South America.

Who are some of the important people in South American history? The Incas were a great civilization! The Inca Empire was in current day Peru for almost 100 years. The green represents the Incan Empire in South America. Look at the ruins of the Incan city, Machu Picchu. The Spanish destroyed many of the Incan cities, but this city, high in the Peruvian mountains, was not rediscovered until 1911.

Meet Atahualpa, the last Incan emperor. Similar to the Aztecs, a Spanish conquistador named Francisco Pizarro conquered the Incas and took their lands for Spain.
