The Inca civilization was the largest pre-Columbian empire to live in the area in and around Peru in South America. Their empire lasted from 1438 to 1533.
The Inca, a highly developed civilization, built their cities on mountains that connected four regions. Atahualpa was the last emperor of the Inca.
In 1532, Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizzaro led the Spanish into the Inca territory. Pizzaro captured and killed Atahualpa. With his death, the Inca Empire came to an end.
