Another war fought between Great Britain and the United States was the War of 1812, which was also known as the Second War for Independence. The War of 1812 started because of these issues:

  1. The British tried to prevent the U.S. from trading goods with France while Britain and France were at war with each other.
  2. The British navy captured U.S. navy sailors (who were on trade ships) and forced them to join the British navy.
  3. The British supported Native Americans who were fighting American troops over access to western lands.

At this time, England still had the stronger army, and they defeated the U.S. in the first attacks in Canada. But then the U.S. gained momentum and won both the Battle of Baltimore and the Battle of New Orleans.

Both of these victories led to the U.S. defeating England. The Treaty of Ghent was signed in 1814. This treaty finally signaled peace between the United States and Great Britain.
