We see a daddy and baby basketball on a basketball court. They are both smiling. The baby basketball rolls from side to side, and the daddy basketball bounces.

This baby basketball only knows how to roll from place to place, but today, his dad is going to teach him something new: how to bounce!

A number line appears along the bottom of the basketball court, with thirty small marks and a large mark every ten units. The baby basketball rolls along the number line from 0 - 30, with each number displayed under him as he goes. Then the daddy basketball bounces on each of the tens marks, and 10, 20, 30 appear under each mark.

That goal is 30 feet away. The baby basketball rolls across the court, and it takes a long time! But watch what the daddy basketball does. He bounces by tens! 10, 20, 30, and he’s there!

A number line appears along the bottom of the basketball court, with fifty small marks and a large mark every ten units. The baby basketball rolls along the number line from 0 - 50, with each number displayed under him as he goes.

This time, the goal is 50 feet away. The baby basketball rolls across all fifty feet, one at a time. That takes forever! But daddy basketball can bounce by tens to get there. Which numbers will he land on as he bounces?

The daddy basketball bounces on each of the tens marks, and 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 appear under each mark.

That’s right, he’ll land on 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50.

Now the basket is 70 feet away. The baby basketball only knows how to roll, so he goes slowly, one foot at a time. Daddy is ready to bounce! What numbers will he land on if he counts by 10's to 70?

The daddy basketball bounces on each of the tens marks, and 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 appear under each mark.

The daddy basketball sits off to the side. A number line appears along the bottom of the basketball court, with one hundred small marks and a large mark every ten units.

Wow, the hoop is 100 feet away now. I think the baby basketball is ready to try bouncing! What numbers will he land on as he bounces by tens from 0 to 100?

The baby basketball bounces down the line, hitting each ten mark. The numbers 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 appear under each bounce. The baby basketball bounces high in the air and goes through the basket.

Right!, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100. And he made a basket! Daddy basketball must be so proud!
