Aloha! Welcome to Hawaii! Here is a lei. A lei is a necklace made of flowers. It is our way of welcoming you here.

Let’s go to the beach and look for shapes.

Look out on the water at the sailboat. Let’s go for a boat ride! The sail is in the shape of a triangle.

Let’s count how many corners there are.  1…2…3…4… Have you noticed that the number of sides and corners are the same? Let’s look at one more shape and see if that is always true.

Look at the octagon on the back of my towel. Let’s count the sides.

1…2…3…4…5…6…7…8  There are 8 sides on an octagon. So, there should be 8 corners, too. Let’s count them to see.
