The early native peoples in Missouri were the Osage, Sac, Fox, Oto, Iowa, Missouri, Miami, Kickapoo, Delaware, Shawnee, and Kansas. Although the state is named for a Native American tribe, today there are no organized tribes left in Missouri.
There are several state parks in Missouri, as well as the Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge and the Mark Twain National Forest.
St. Louis Union Station, first opened in 1894, is a national historic landmark; it is the world’s largest and busiest train station. It was restored and redeveloped in 1985 as a festive marketplace with many specialty shops and restaurants.
