Gregor Mendel

Gregor Mendel began to ask questions about the heights of pea plants and wanted to determine what controlled the height of the plants. He began by experimenting on a set of tall pea plants and a set of short pea plants. Mendel coined the terms recessive and dominant in reference to certain traits.

He used Punnett squares to predict the outcomes of his pea plants. Click the arrow to see an example and explanation of a Punnett square.
