In 1829, Gottfried Duden, a German visitor to America, wrote a book titled Report of a Journey to the Western States of North America. It described German immigrants' lives in the United States and encouraged many more Germans to come to the country. Many settled in New York City, Chicago, Milwaukee, New Orleans, and Cincinnati.
