My last name is Brown. Everyone in my family has the same last name, but we don't look exactly the same. Do you look the same as everyone with your last name?
Shapes are like that, too. They have the same name, even though they are different sizes and colors, and face different ways. Look at each family of shapes. All of the shapes in each family have the same name. Can you name each group? After you try to name them, click on the Show Me button to see if you were right!

The first was a family of circles, the second was a family of squares, the third was a family of octagons, and the last was a family of pentagons. Like your family, all of the shapes in each group have the same name, and they may look similar--but some things about them look different.
