1 |
A magician appears, holding a magic wand and a top hat. |
This is the Amazing Euclid, a world famous shape magician. With his magic wand, he can transform any shape into any other shape! Let's see what he can do. |
2 |
A red triangle with the point facing up comes out of his hat. We see a magic spell and a puff of smoke, and a larger, green triangle with the point facing down appears out of the hat. |
Look at this shape. A triangle! The Amazing Euclid will try to turn it into a new shape. Into the hat it goes, and with a wave of the magic wand, ta-da! |
3 |
Euclid frowns. |
Hmm. It looks a little different: it's bigger, it's a different color, and it's upside down. But is it a new shape? |
4 |
The triangle goes off screen. Now, a yellow square comes out of the hat. After a magical flourish, the square reappears, but now it's smaller, pink, and rotated slightly. |
No, it's still a triangle. I guess that trick didn't work. Let's try a new one. Here is a square. The Amazing Euclid works his magic, and Abracadabra! It's changed, but is it a new shape? |
5 |
Euclid frowns again. The square goes off screen. |
Nope. It's smaller, and at a different angle, but it's still a square. Looks like the Amazing Euclid needs to keep practicing this trick. |
6 |
A cyan hexagon comes out of the hat. It stays on screen for a few seconds, then goes back in the hat. After the spell, the hexagon comes out larger, colored with a rainbow spectrum, and rotated slightly. |
Let's try a hexagon-- a six-sided shape. I bet this time the Amazing Euclid can turn it into something new. Al-A-Kazaam! |
7 |
Euclid frowns. |
Wow, that's really different. Did the trick work this time? Has the magician made a new shape? |
8 |
Euclid smiles again as we zoom in on him. |
Sorry, not this time. Although it's a different size, rotation and color, it's still got six sides, and it's still a hexagon. |
9 |
Well, I guess changing a shape's size, color or orientation doesn't make it into a different shape, no matter how magical you are. |
