You know a lot of math facts! Are you ready to use them? Look at the cost of the last four items on your grocery list again.
$4 Remember to start with what you know. Look at the four numbers. Which two would you add together first? If you are good at making ten, and you see a 4 and a 6, you can add those together first.

$4 $10 If you don't know that fact by heart, you can use a number line. 17 That's the second sum. Write 17 next to those two numbers. Now add the two sums together to find the answer.
